How To Insure You Get a Good Contractor

When you are doing home remodeling, it pays to ask tough questions.  After all, you will have to live with the consequences of the decision for as long as you live in your home.  You shouldn’t leave anything to chance. The first thing you should do is ask for referrals, and they should be jobs similar to the one you are getting done, and when you get the referrals, call them all and ask those people questions about whether the job was done on time and on budget, and whether they are happy with the job now that they are living with the results.

If it is OK with the person they use as a referral, go and see the work for yourself.  Check out the craftsmanship and see whether it is up to the standards that you think they should live up to. Always ask how long they have been in business.  I did this with the people who did the full install on my bathroom.  The people at Somerville Aluminum had been in business since 1950.  That is a long time to have any business, and that and the referrals they had, gave me the confidence to go ahead and get the project done with them. A prying mind and inquisitiveness are your friends as far as finding out about contractors who will be working in and on your home.
